PNN File playout discontinuation

Dear Members,

News item playout via Satellite on the PNN will stop from 1st October, including the regional news exchanges.

As announced, news item delivery will continue via File to your MAMs (via iPOP and internet), the Eurovision News Exchange website and the update version 2.0 of the NewsExchange APP (iOS and Android). Monitoring of delivered content is available on EVNTV and on the website’s Live streaming, as well as item previews.

The three new News Exchange Satellite channels: EBU1; EBU2; EBU3 will display a list of all Live and other content in three distinct colours:

The content available on these channels will be as follows:

  • EBU1 former PNN on 3D6 – main EBU output, mainly Lives, but not exclusively (see below).
  • EBU2 former PEN on 3C6 – planned Lives.
  • EBU3 on 3E6 – planned Lives and the only channel where Reuters and APTN Lives will be fed.

EBU1

The blue channel remains the go-to channel for the most important content members need to receive. The new item type will be LIVE1 and it will always be assigned to the EBU1 channel.

Some news items will also be available on this channel:

FLASH: For essential, non-LIVE content (edited or rushes). If content refers to breaking news, it will also have the category “breaking”. This content will also be sent as a file with item type EVF. Examples for a flash are: POOL rushes of an important event (Trump meeting Putin); a key element in an ongoing main story (Brexit deadline announced); an edit that everyone is waiting for 20 minutes before bulletin times…

EBU2

The green channel will contain most of the planned LIVE coverage. Item type LIVE2 will replace the former item type NE. LIVE2 items will always be assigned to the EBU2 channel. Most planned Live signals will be allocated to this channel.

EBU3

The purple channel will be for long-duration Live events, planned Live events, Live events with more localised interest and in case of major breaking news Reuters or APTN Live signals. Both Reuters and APTN will never be played on EBU1, nor EBU2.

BREAKING NEWS: Breaking tag is reserved for a major story that has just been reported. This tag can be used on LIVE or non-LIVE content via satellite or FILE.

The News Exchange website will also be updated to reflect the new Live channels. News Items will continue to show a timing, but this will indicate the publishing time, replacing the former transmission time.
